On Wednesday, Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran announced that the Reno Fire Department has begun delivering paramedic level service in the field.

It started last Friday and that's the highest level of EMS service that can be provided.

He says since firefighters often respond to a scene before REMSA, they wanted to make sure they can provide the best service possible.

"Why not deliver the best possible service as soon as possible, and that was our goal and that's what we've accomplished now."

Cochran says they've hired 22 additional paramedics to help expand the service throughout the city.
