The United States Attorney's Office, District of Nevada says a Reno man was sentenced to prison for possessing thousands of images and videos of child sexual abuse.
Officials said 51-year-old Daren Phillips was sentenced on Wednesday to five years and three months in federal prison for having the images and videos. It included prepubescent minors involved in sexually explicit conduct and sadistic and masochistic conduct, officials said.
He pleaded guilty in June 2019 to one count of possession of child pornography. He will have 20 years of supervised release following his prison term. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, in April 2018, an individual presented Phillips' laptop to law enforcement and reported finding child pornography on the computer. Officials said Phillips admitted that from 2016 to April 2018, he had 4,753 images and 538 videos of child pornography and an additional 17,036 images and 449 videos containing child erotica or nudity.
