Reno Man Sentenced to Prison After Pleading Guilty to Attempted Lewdness With a 9-Year-Old

A Reno man has been sentenced to a maximum 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted lewdness with a minor under the age of 14, the Washoe County District Attorney's Office said.

Officials say 32-year-old Travis William Bish from Reno will be eligible for parole after 8 years and will be subject to lifetime supervision. Bish must register as a sex offender after release.

Bish said he accidentally sexually molested a 9-year-old female relative while she was in his care, according to officials. The incident happened on August 22, 2020.

Deputy District Attorney Brittany Bishop argued in court that the defendant's act wasn't a mistake but a crime of opportunity against a young child who had put their trust in him.

Officials say a relative of the child provided a victim impact statement at sentencing, asking the court to give Bish the maximum penalty of 20 years.

After giving Bish the maximum penalty, Washoe County District Court Judge Scott Freeman said Bish was unwilling to take ownership for what he had done.
