403x304 Healthwatch - new

In Washoe County’s most recent “Community Health Needs Assessment” report you will notice a shortage in health care access. It says one-third of Washoe County’s population lives in a primary provider shortage area. In response, Renown Health has expanded the Renown Medical Group to include five new locations – including a primary care office at the Summit Mall in south Reno.

-Renown Medical Group – Summit Sierra at 13925 S. Virginia St., Suite 632 in The Summit Mall in South Reno.

-Renown Medical Group – Caughlin at 4796 Caughlin Parkway, Suite 108 in the Scolari’s shopping center.

-Renown Medical Group – Robb at 1595 Robb Drive, Suite 2 across from Raley’s shopping center.

-Renown Medical Group – Double R, Suite 220 at 10085 Double R Boulevard in Renown South Meadows, Medical Pavilion B.

-Renown Medical Group – Pringle at 75 Pringle Way, Suite 601 in Renown Regional Medical Center, Center for Advanced Medicine C.

The new medical group offices have a modern and updated look and feel - with lounge chairs, bold colors, contemporary artwork and video playing on the walls to relax patients. "When you're here, it's comfortable and soothing,” explains Dr. Marie McCormack who practices Family Medicine, “So I'm not jacking up your blood pressure while you're sitting here waiting to come see me." Designed with patient input in mind, the homey feel isn't the only draw. The location of the new Renown Health Medical Group is also creating quite a buzz. After surveying growth in our area, Renown opened the primary care site on the south side of the Summit Mall right off Mount Rose Highway. "This is a great place where you can come go see your doctor and, as I do, go and make a trip to one of the shops."

Five providers – including physicians, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants - work out of the Summit office. To expedite your visit, they subscribes to the ‘Care Team’ approach. "It's the idea that I have a physician there, but I also have advanced practice providers who are totally licensed, but they operate under the supervision of the physician." The design of the patient rooms will also speed up the visits. There is a back door in each patient room that leads directly to the doctors’ flow station. Physicians do not have their own offices at this medical group; they work side-by-side with the staff in a central location for easier communication. "So if you call in the middle of the day with an emergency of some kind, she can catch me in between patients and say so-and-so is on the phone. This is what's going on,” says Dr. McCormack. While the primary care office is open only during regular business hours, there is always a doctor on-call. The medical group also has plenty of room to expand and grow its services, including the possibility of adding virtual visit technology in the future.  It is all designed with the patient in mind to help make health care more convenient for our busy lives.
