According to the Associated Press, the crash of Flight 9525 appears to be intentional.
In a press conference Thursday, a French prosecutor said that the co-pilot was alone in the cockpit. The co-pilot has been identified as 28-year-old Andreas Lubitz, a German national.
Lubitz apparently begin the descent manually and intentionally, and was conscious until impact. The prosecutor also said that Lubitz appeared to want to "destroy the plane".
The voice recorder has revealed banging on the armored cockpit door in the minutes leading to the crash. Lubitz did not respond to demands to open the door of the cabin, but was breathing up to the moment of impact.
