Roosters Comb Fire Near Battle Mountain Fully Contained

The BLM says the 218,380-acre Roosters Comb Fire north of Battle Mountain is fully contained.

The wildfire started last Sunday night and has been burning quickly through grass and sage brush.

Mining operations at Bootstrap, Rossi, Barrick Goldstrike and Newmont Gold mines have been affected by the fire and are working with the incident team to prepare for next steps if the fire is an imminent threat.

Authorities say crews continue to minimize acres burned within the Antelope Creek area to protect critical habitat for grazing, sage grouse, and deer winter range.

The public is encouraged to stay out of the area and allow for fire engines and equipment ease of access.

There are no evacuations or closures at this time.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

While the fire has been contained, the BLM says that there is still work to be done. Read more about what happens next in the document below.
