Salvation Army Serves 1,020 Meals to Those in Need

The Salvation Army in partnership with businesses throughout the community held the annual event, Feed the Hungry at the Reno Events Center on Tuesday.

The annual feast provides a free hot meal for those in need. Hundreds of pounds of food was donated for the event. The Eldorado Resort Casino cooked, and volunteers served about 1,020 people. Safari Club International/Sportsmen Against Hunger also provided a goodie bag for each person as they leave the event.

Major Darren Trimmer, the Washoe County coordinator said, "We all have neighbors and some of them aren't as fortunate as we are, and so it's very important that we reach out to our neighbor and help out in anyway that we can."

Organizers say this wouldn't be possible without the its sponsors and the community's help.

The following is a list of the Salvation Army's sponsors: Safari Club International/Sportsmen Against Hunger, The Reno Events Center, ASM Global, The Eldorado, Harrah’s Reno, Savor, Model Dairy, Ponderosa Meat Co., and US Foods.

High Sierra Chef’s Associations, Wells Fargo, AACT, REMSA, and Washoe County Sheriff’s Department also provided some of the volunteers.
