The National Park Service has announced that prescribed burning will begin in the Cedar Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park on April 16.

Neighbors said the smoke has made outdoor activities troublesome, but the worst should be behind us.

The Forest Service says it plans to burn up to 600 acres over the next two weeks. Burns are expected to begin around 9 a.m. each day.

Smoke may be visible as crews plan a controlled burn near a popular Tahoe recreation area this week.

Fire crews are continuing prescribed burns in the Galena Creek area of south Reno through Friday, weather permitting.
