Update: The Associated Press says that the El Dorado County Sheriff-Coroner's office identified the girl as Chloe Conn of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
A sheriff's official said the girl was with her mother, father and 17-year-old brother when the deadly accident occurred.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office says a young girl died after falling while hiking near Vikingsholm Trail.
The sheriff's office says that on Wednesday at about 12 pm, it was reported that a 14-year-old girl fell about 50 feet while hiking near the Vikingsholm Trail.
Vikingsholm Trail is near Highway 89 at Emerald Bay and according to California Department of Parks and Recreation website, there is a steep one mile trail that drops 500 feet in elevation.
EDSO deputies, CHP, Cal-Star, CA State Parks, Lake Valley Fire and South Tahoe EMS personnel responded to assist and an off-duty law enforcement officer who was in the area began CPR on the victim before the arrival of on-duty first responders.
Officials say she sustained major injuries as a result of the fall and that extensive life saving efforts were conducted on scene.
They say she was transported to Barton Hospital, where she died.
