The first medical marijuana dispensary to open in the Biggest Little City is letting the public see what they're all about with open houses this week. Sierra Wellness Connection will be the only fully licensed seed-to-sale medical cannabis provider in Reno.
The public and potential patients went on a tour of the dispensary, learning about how the single-source provider cultivates, processes and dispenses medical marijuana.
Eva Losey-Grossman, the Dispensary Manager at Sierra Wellness Connection said, "Our flowers are proprietary strain and we have harvested them in our cultivation facility and then we sell them here in the dispensary."
Patients who need medical marijuana for chronic or debilitating diseases, pain, nausea, or other approved conditions will soon enough be able to buy it in Reno.Â
"We are able to accept Nevada patients here. And also out of state patients. If you have a MMJ card or if you have your approval letter, we can accept that," said Losey-Grossman.Â
Eva Losey-Grossman is the Dispensary Manager at Sierra Wellness Connection. She herself is a patient of medical marijuana and believes it not only has changed her life, but it has benefited countless other patients.
"I had a very bad accident in 2012 and it's kind of helped me come back to life ever since then and be a productive member of society and be able to work, rather than waste away in bed or be in a wheelchair," said Losey-Grossman.Â
Dr. James W. Forsythe has been an oncologist for more than 40 years. He says medical marijuana has worked wonders for cancer patients, but they've had to travel far to get it.Â
"Before we would have to send them to California. They would have to get a marijuana card from California. And then travel to Sonoma County four hours away," said Forsythe.Â
Forsythe says now things will be much more convenient.Â
Some visitors during the tour say it's great Nevada has regulations and lab testing for those that need the extra help.Â
"The black market isn't really safe, I think it's great that it will be regulated and people will know exactly what they're getting and be able to use it in a real medical manner," said Sarah Rosenfeld from Verdi.Â
Sierra Wellness Connection will officially open their doors August 26.
The public is invited to visit the dispensary at an open house this week, Wednesday through Friday between noon and 6 p.m. every day.Â
