Just like that the calendar went from summer to fall and it looks more like winter at the Mt. Rose ski area - with one of the earliest snows of the season.
"Winter is just around the corner, people say, ‘no, it's still summer, it can still be warm' and that's the thing about this part of the country in a drop of the hat all of a sudden we got white!" says Mike Pierce.
Snowfall amounts ranged from a dusting to about an inch or two at the summit.
As the chairlifts wait in anticipation for riders, Pierce hopes this is a sign of things to come - as the local ski areas try and recover from one of the driest winter's on record last year.
"We will start making snow any chance we have windows to make snow in addition to mother nature doing her part, yeah winter is coming."
And workers like Dave Hahl spent the day getting those snow guns out of hibernation and testing them out.
Hahl has been doing this for 30 years and says if the conditions are just right they will start making snow soon.
"Anything we can do to supplement the snow this early in the season, if we do make snow we will keep it in the wells, won't push it around. Later in October and November as we get closer to opening we will start spreading it out."
This area of low pressure will hang around Nevada through the weekend giving the mountains another chance for snow and that's great news for the ski areas.
Snow also fell at Heavenly Mountain Resort.
