A’ja Wilson made sure her basketball spoke for itself Thursday night, the four-time WNBA MVP scoring 36 points to lead the defending champion Las Vegas Aces to a 94-83 victory and eliminate the Indiana Fever in the deciding Game 3 of the first round. The third-seeded Aces move on to play the winner of the Golden State-Dallas series, which will be decided Friday night in San Francisco. This is the second year in a row Las Vegas has ended the season for the Fever, who were seeded sixth.
General manager Amber Cox defended the Indiana Fever's fanbase during the team’s end-of-season news conferences. Criticism of Fever fans occurred again in Game 2 of Indiana’s first-round series with the Las Vegas Aces. Four-time MVP A’ja Wilson had an incident with a fan sitting behind the baseline, who shouted and pointed at her. She did the same to him. The fan was taken to the back of the arena before returning to his seat when it was determined that the fan code of conduct hadn’t been broken. Kelsey Mitchell, who had a career-best season with the Fever, said in her exit interview that playing in Indiana can be difficult at times because of interactions with some of the fans.
