Wolf Pack runs away from Huskies in 2nd Half en route to 81-62 win

Reno, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team dropped its match against the Boise State Broncos on Thursday. The Broncos went up 2-0 with final scores of 25-21 and 25-14, to close the match in 3-0 after a 25-17 victory in the third set. 

 

Senior, Kyla Waiters led the Pack with 12 kills, in a .241 hitting percentage. The senior also recorded nine digs, one service ace, and one block assist. Waiters was followed by redshirt junior Savanna Maker with 5 kills in a .118 hitting percentage. Maker also recorded two block assists. 

 

Junior, Andrea Alcaraz recorded 23 assists, together with her six digs and two block assists. 

 

Senior Kaila Spevak led the defense with 12 digs and recorded one assist. 

 

Junior Sydney Petersen was a key member of the Pack defense as well. Petersen recorded three solo blocks and five block assists, together with her three kills and one service ace.

 

As a team, the Pack had a total of 29 kills, in a .104 hitting percentage, 36 digs, 25 assists, 10 total blocks, and two service aces.

 

The Broncos started the first set in the lead. The Pack was able to cut the margin in the 8-6 mark, but the Broncos made a five-score run and forced the Pack to call a timeout. Nevada fought back and cut the margin in the 22-20 mark, but the Broncos made a three-score run to close the set in 25-21. 

 

In the second set, Boise State had an early score run and forced the Pack to call a timeout in the 8-2 mark. Nevada came back and cut the margin to 8-5 but the Broncos made a five-score run to extend the lead in the game. Boise State went up 2-0 after closing the set in 25-14. 

 

The final set started with a three-score run by the Broncos. Nevada was able to cut the margin to 3-4 after an attack error by Boise State. The Broncos made a four-score run to keep the lead. The Wolf Pack fought to make a comeback and cut the margin to 16-11, but Boise State closed the set in 25-17 and the match in 3-0.

The Nevada volleyball team will be back at the Virginia Street Gym to face the Utah State Aggies on Nov. 13.
