Stepping it Up for STEP 2

Do you want to STEP it up for a good cause?

Our radio partners at Alice 96.5 are stepping it up for STEP 2 Monday and Tuesday. They are looking to collect new and gently used household items, like vacuums, dishes, board games, linens, and more for women and children in our area. It's basically anything that can make a house, a home after dealing with the struggles of drug addiction.

“You have no idea what it means to these women when they had no one who truly loved them or cared about them,” said Connie Wray with Alice 96.5. “Now they have a whole community that is wrapping themselves around them and say, ‘We do believe in you. We do care about you.'"

This is the 14th year Bill and Connie have been helping STEP 2 by holding this donation drive. They tell us one of the reasons why they help this organization is because it is so successful by helping mothers and children survive the struggles of addiction.

Check this out: STEP 2 has a 63% success rate with their members, compared to a national average of 17%.

So how does STEP 2 work? They treat women who struggle for substance abuse. Once they complete the program, STEP 2 helps them transition back into the real world.

“What better way to have complete new beginnings like moving into a new house with all the items you need,” said Diaz Dixon, CEO of STEP 2. “Many of the women come into the program with nothing but the shirts on their backs.”

And with these two days of  donation drives, you can help make a huge difference in these women's lives.

“Alice probably helps with 80% of the donations that come in and fill our cottages,” said Dixon. “I couldn't imagine where we would be without Bill and Connie and Alice.”
