Back in November, Pizza Plus doubled the size of its flagship location on Oddie Boulevard. This expansion is here just in time for the Super Bowl, which so happens to be the busiest day of the year for the family-owned local business.
In order for this day to be a logistical success, a lot of planning is put forward nearly 3 weeks in advance of the big game. In fact all 148 of the company’s employees will be on board that day.
"Every employee knows where they're going to be working, what time they're coming in, what time they're leaving, so these guys are pretty well prepared,” says Operations Manager Sal Garcia.
Between Pizza Plus’s four local shops, they plan to make more than 3,000 pizzas and over 6,000 pounds of wings Super Bowl Sunday.
"The amount of product that we get in stretches our capacity to hold it, all the freezers are full and all of the walk ins are full,” says President and CEO Dan Blake.
This even includes the Oddie Boulevard Pizza Plus that’s now more than 6,000 square feet in size.
The recent expansion includes two more ovens, four more deep fryers and even a dough room that supplies to other Pizza Plus locations.
This type of growth can be a bit of a blessing and a curse for employees when it comes to days like the Super Bowl.
“They have more room to prepare the orders, but in the other sense, they'll be doing a lot more orders,” says Blake.
The expanded facility also features a separate entrance and counter that's specifically for to-go orders. This new space will help to reduce the wait time for the 90 percent of take out business during the Super Bowl.
In order to accommodate this type of demand, Pizza Plus has been taking to-go orders nearly two weeks in advance of the big game.
The company says if you haven't placed an order yet, they suggest you do it right away. They expect to max out their takeout orders by the start of the weekend.
