You can help out thousands of children currently in foster care all over Northern Nevada, now until December 31st.
"AÂ lot of times they are taken from their home with just the clothes on their back so to be able to provide new clothing is just an incredible gift to show someone cares," says Clara Andriola, the Executive Director with the Reno Rodeo.Â
This is the 12th year of the Reno Rodeo Denim Drive and over the years they have been able to provide over 40,000 infants, children, and teens with new jeans and denim jackets. That is over $1 million in denim jeans, shirts as well as infant and toddler clothes. They are collecting denim in 14 different counties across Northern Nevada and where they are collected, stays in that county. "The community who is donating knows that their friends, neighbors, possibly their family is being served," says Andriola.
For these children having new clothes can be crucial. "I was a teenager in foster care so it was important for me to have new clothes when I was growing up in foster care," explains Eduardo Martinez Jr, he is working with the Denim Drive this year to make sure more kids in our state get the help they need. "In foster care you feel different or you did something wrong so it is nice to teach them some normality and show it is not their fault and give them some things of their own."Â
They ask that you donate brand new clothes. To find the nearest drop off location near you visit:Â https://www.renorodeofoundation.org/denim-drive/collection-locations/
You have until December 31st, 2018 to donate.Â
