The Zombie Crawl will not be happening this year, according to the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority website.
The annual crawl that generates a lot of business for local bars was set for the weekend before Halloween.
Crawl-Reno is the organizer of this event including all the other crawls throughout the year. On their site they have a note regarding events.
It says, "Right now massive events like our world-class bar crawls are not advised by health organizations, and we get it."
Crawl-Reno say “We know a lot of people will be disappointed and a lot of businesses won’t see the revenue during a time they desperately need it but it’s impossible to put on events like ours right now.”
Organizer Ed Adkins announced the cancellation over Facebook and on the company's website, stating “we’ve been hoping for things to improve enough in order to go ahead but cases continue to rise and we still haven’t gotten out of phase two of reopening. Events still cannot be held in numbers anywhere near what the Zombie Crawl brings to downtown.”
With bars operating at 50 percent capacity, serving thousands of crawlers would be difficult. Other crawls were canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, including the Leprechaun Crawl, Superhero Crawl and Potter Crawl.
Adkins encourages people to dress up and celebrate with friends, but wants people to do it at varying times on different days or nights so that thousands of people don't flood downtown all at once.
In the absence of the Zombie Crawl, Adkins says people need to find other ways to "keep the fun alive."
The Thriller dance under the Reno arch will also not be happening.
“Heart and Sole Dance Academy will miss doing one of our favorite events this year, Thriller Under the Arch. We believe it is best to be safe during this time and want everyone to stay healthy. We hope to teach and perform Thriller next year,” says the owner of Heart and Sole Dance Academy.
