This week's Someone 2 Know is a Reno business owner, who grew up right here, in Washoe County. Dynisha “Nish” Richardson is a certified hair loss practitioner and wig consultant who began her career as a hair stylist.

She opened her own salon in Sparks in 2019 and this summer expanded her offerings with a new shop providing hair re-growth treatments and wigs.

Open for business and ready to serve.

Pink Wigs Closet in Reno's Meadowood Mall has plenty of beautiful, high end wigs - pink ones included.

Owner Dynisha Richardson - who goes by Nish - says the shop offers so much more.

"The main focus is, because I am a certified hair loss practitioner, is to make sure their hair is protected and growing and healthy underneath."

Hair loss - known as alopecia - has a variety of causes, including stress, hormones and medications.

It can often be reversed with treatment.

"Literally, you see the results within three to four weeks."

Richardson offers laser therapy, a widely accepted procedure that is considered safe and painless.

"And it's all collagen induced so, it's natural."

Nish also offers scalp detox and hair steaming. Both procedures help remove buildup and stimulate hair follicles. Nish, also a wife and mom of three, says she was inspired by a client she met years ago when she was a hair stylist.

“One day I had a lady come in, she was a burn victim and, oh, my gosh, the way she felt when I fixed her hair. She cried, she was very grateful, ad that just made me want to help more people.”

So, after being certified by the U.S. Trichology Institute, Richardson made sure her shop was set up for insurance billing - for when treatment and wigs are medically approved.

“You can download the prescription request letter to give to your doctor.”

The business owner says she - and the shop's hair stylist Tee Burks - are ready to welcome more clients.

"Because now I can let everyone know that these are the options that are here for you."

Nish says the business is also developing a non-profit arm called "Empower Me Pink". It will allow fundraising, then a resource for those impacted by cancer and other hair-loss inducing illnesses, to get a wig, who may not otherwise be able to afford one.
