The teen accused of stabbing his two adoptive parents last month in Fernley appeared in a courtroom Monday morning. Â
Adam Miller appeared for a hearing on his competency to stand trial.
His attorneys asked he be able to take a competency test and asked for time to find a provider to administer one, which the judge granted.
Another hearing will be held once testing is completed, which could take as long as early March.
Miller faces charges of open murder, attempted murder, concealing evidence and domestic battery or strangulation in connection with the stabbings that killed his father and seriously wounded his mother.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Last week, a day-long manhunt in Fernley led to the arrest of 19-year-old double-stabbing suspect Adam Miller.
He's been charged with stabbing his parents and killing his father, Lance Miller.
During today's arraignment hearing in Fernley Justice Court, the judge ordered Adam Miller to appear for a competency hearing on January 13th in Fernley District Court. This hearing will determine whether Miller is mentally competent to stand trial.
New details revealed in the criminal complaint indicate that Adam Miller allegedly stabbed his father, Lance Miller, in the neck and chest, resulting in his father's death.
In relation to this case, Adam Miller is facing multiple charges: one count of murder with a deadly weapon, one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, one count of battery with a deadly weapon against an individual aged 60 years or older, and one count of destruction of evidence. Specifically, Miller is accused of attempting to destroy or conceal the knife used in the incident.
An additional criminal complaint filed on November 21 charges Adam Miller with illegally concealing a firearm without a permit. During the arraignment, the judge noted that Adam Miller has a criminal history.
This afternoon, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the mother of the suspect, Elizabeth Miller, has been released from the hospital.
