Truckee Police and other agencies are holding events to take back any unneeded or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.Â
The take-back day will be on Saturday, October 25, at a collection site in Truckee.
The department says the event is for residents only and not for businesses or DEA registrants, including veterinarian offices and doctors’ offices.
The police say, for pills, place them in a plastic sandwich bag, and dispose of empty pill bottles in your trash or recycling bin. For liquid medications, keep them in their original bottles, black out any personal information, and place the bottles in a zip-lock bag.
Truckee Police also say vaping devices and cartridges will be accepted, except for those containing lithium-ion batteries.
If you can't go to the event, they will accept items at the Truckee Police Department between Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. excluding holidays.
More agencies are providing this opportunity.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office at the Incline Station, will also be accepting between Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. through 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. through 5 p.m.
Nevada County Public Health (NCPH) is offering the disposal of unwanted medications, inhalers, and used sharps through a partnership with Med-Project.
People can also pick up free mail-back envelopes and boxes with pre-paid postage, available at the Health and Human Services Agency in Truckee.
