Fighting monsters, evading traps and exploring dangerous caverns and dungeons all sound like exhausting tasks to conquer, but when you can do it all from the safety of a table with some good friends it sounds like a pretty awesome summer.
"This is a great opportunity for kids, because not only are they exposed to other kiddos with similar interests and similar hobbies, they are also being supervised by an adult and it's away from their home, or a school setting where they can just literally, be themselves," says Hanna Bulson, lead activity attendant, Sierra Kids Program.
The D20 Club is meeting up four times over the course of the summer and it's offering kids a chance to be creative and collaborate with each other using problem solving skills with a group to tackle unique challenges through the game of Dungeons & Dragons, while also being completely disconnected from screens.
Dungeons & Dragons is a collaborative storytelling role-playing game that uses pen, paper and dice to create the story and decide the outcomes.Â
Groups are lead by a Dungeon Master, who guides the story, controls the world, the monsters and other characters while throwing challenges at the party, which is made up of the other members at the table who are working together as adventurers.
In the D20 Club, the Dungeon Master will also be the one supervising and coordinating the group.
"Going into programs like this, our main goal is to have fun, for them to socialize, for them to increase their, I would say networking skills, cause they're not only exposed to their group but other kiddos."Â
Parents who are interested and want to sign up early, you can do so here.
The D20 Club's first meeting is this Saturday, May 16th.
