The City of Reno, Washoe County School District, and the Vision Impairment Services Department are organizing a White Cane Walk.
This event is open to everybody, and attendees are urged to bring their white cane if they have one.
Organizers say, "The white cane is an essential tool that gives blind adults and blind children the ability to achieve a full and independent life.” Organizers also add, "It allows them the opportunity to move more freely and safely from place to place, whether it's at work, at school, or around neighborhoods and their communities."
Attendees will participate in a walk around Virginia Lake, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The path is paved, accessible, and family-friendly, according to organizers.
Organizers also say to meet under the park shelter on Lakeside Dr at 9:45 a.m.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office also says they will be there for support.
The Sheriff's Office Says, "They are proud to support this event with interactive public safety displays, helping participants connect with deputies and learn about safety in our community."
