Reno Start Up Week wrapped up on Friday. Business leaders say the creation and growth of small businesses requires a number of elements to launch and sustain steady economic revenue.

Many people who attended this week are aspiring entrepreneurs who came to lift and launch their business and learn how to strategically take steps that will elevate their companies.

In an exclusive interview, 2 News Nevada sat down with Brian Smith, who started UGG, which currently generates over $2 billion in sales.

"Number one is get started," said Brian Smith, CEO of UGG. "So many people have the brilliant ideas, and they tell all their friends about it, but they never do anything. Getting started is the hardest part for every entrepreneur."

Hailing from Perth, Australia, Smith moved to southern California and began selling his boots pop-up style out of his van in Malibu.

He was determined to build what today is one of the most iconic fashion wardrobe staples globally.

In Smith's book, "Birth of a Brand," he talks about the elements needed for inspiring entrepreneurs, lifting and launching businesses.

The power of perseverance is the most critical element to entrepreneurship," he said. "This philosophy takes several steps to level out your business and fully succeed. Your failures ultimately lead you to abundance in the journey as you develop your company or product."

Smith adds, "I don't talk about all my successes, I'm gonna be telling everybody about my failures, and how I was able to persevere, and get through it, because if you spend the time, if you believe, clearly believe in the product, number one, or the service, and if it is a valid product or service, you just got to keep nurturing it, that's the secret for every entrepreneur."

Reno Start Up Week featured a multitude of components designed to help beginning entrepreneurs launch their business, transforming an idea into action.

Topics span ideation, growth strategies, marketing, legal, finance, scaling, and more.

Taylor Adams, CEO of Economic Development of Western Nevada, says, "1,500 local small starting businesses have chosen to come together and convene and share information, network, and talk about all of the things that are impacting their growth and success here.  It's been a really powerful week; we've had over 60 sessions."

The challenges, failures, highs, and lows of building a business from the ground up can be grueling and exciting at the same time.

Experts suggest pushing through, with focus and persistence, which will land you in the ever-growing success arena.
