A new study finds patients who do not resume taking their blood pressure medication within two days of surgery are significantly more likely to die within the month. Researchers from UC San Francisco studied 30,000 patients. They found those who didn't resume their medication promptly also increased their risk of infections, pneumonia and organ failure. Blood pressure medications are commonly stopped for patients under general anesthesia. They are often not restarted right away.

New research finds more people started getting screened for colorectal cancer after 2008. The American Cancer Society says the increase was most evident for low-income Americans. Researchers say the new test is much more efficient than testing for specific viruses one at a time.
