UPDATE: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office says they've identified a body that was found in the hills near Belmar Drive on Christmas Eve.

Officials said 68-year-old Elaine Andersen of Sparks was pronounced dead on scene.

Her manner and cause of death are pending the investigation.

Original Story: The Sparks Police Department (SPD) says just before 3 p.m. people who were out on a walk with their dogs reported finding a body in the hills east of Belmar Drive.

They say when they arrived they confirmed what was reported.

SPD says the deceased person is a female, though they have not yet been identified.

They say they don't suspect any suspicious activity is involved in this incident.

SPD and the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office are conducting an investigation

The public is asked to avoid the area while SPD investigates.
