A section of I-580 between south Reno and Washoe Valley is experiencing wind gusts ranging from 80 to 100 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions for all cars.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning that these winds will continue to persist through today.

Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes where possible.

In Washoe Valley, a crew on the scene reported seeing the aftermath of the strong winds, including an overturned semi-truck on I-580 near Bellevue and multiple semis parked along the freeway, unable to continue due to the gusts.

The winds are strongly affecting the stretch of highway from Pleasant Valley to Carson City

In addition to these conditions, strong, gusty winds are expected to continue across the greater Reno area, Lake Tahoe, and Mono and Mineral counties throughout the day.

A Lake Wind Advisory is also in effect for Pyramid Lake, where local blowing dust and hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles are anticipated.

Travelers can expect choppy lake conditions, bumpy flights, and potential disruptions to recreational activities.
