On Thursday night, at the Minden-Tahoe Airport, the Douglas County School Board held a meeting to discuss a budget deficit it is facing for fiscal year 2025-2026.

During the meeting, they went over possible resolutions to find some wiggle room in their funding.

This included adjusting salaries, benefiting from state grants for services covered by Medicaid, and augmenting the fiscal year budget.

Three resolutions were presented: a resolution to the general fund, special fund revenue, and the debt service fund budget.

All three amendments passed unanimously.

Public comment primarily consisted of community members concerned about budget and enrollment numbers leading to school closures and consolidations in the district. Specifically in the Lake area.

"I'm here tonight to advocate for our Lake schools and to express my deep disappointment that further consolidation or potential school closures at the Lake continue to be part of the conversation. Our lake schools have already consolidated," said one commenter.

"If there is no school, then it makes it extremely difficult for families to live in our Lake community," said another commenter.

"These kids should not continue to be punished," said another person. "We've got a middle school up there that's sitting empty, that can't be used."

There was additional concern over transportation as well, if schools were to consolidate, and how it would affect bus routes.
