On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Joe Lombardo hosted a live press conference with agency heads at the Davis Fire Incident Command Center at the South Valleys Library.

When Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency on Sunday, it activated federal funding requests.

The top priority is to control the fire, and once that's done, the state will calculate the expenses of putting out the fire and getting back on track. The Nevada State Contingency Fund will be the main source of funding for the resources and labor associated with fighting the Davis Fire.

"The state contingency fund and the emergency fund is determined in the fiscal budget out of the Governor's office, but that's based on previous year's actions and the predictions on the fire environment going into the year," Governor Joe Lombardo said.

State of Nevada Executive Budget 2023 - 2025:

The Nevada State Contingency Fund is a fund that provides temporary funds to state agencies when the Nevada Legislature is not in session. The fund is administered by the Interim Finance Committee, which operates within the Legislative Counsel Bureau between legislative sessions.

Additionally, the state helps local government jurisdictions with FMAGs (Fire Management Assistance Grant Application) to access FEMA funds to recover the costs for resources and labor associated with fighting wild fires.

State and local governments can receive up to 75 percent in recovery dollars from the federal government. The emergency stabilization and rehabilitation dollars will come into the county to help rehabilitate the scorched lands.

Nevada Division of Forestry State Forester and State Fire Warden Kacey KC discussed her agency's use of the contingency fund.

"I can only speak to how much I eat up of the state contingency fund every year in fire suppression every year. I don't know about the full amount. I know what I get in emergency suppression funds for wildland firefighting. It's roughly about 4.5 million dollars is what I start with, but I have the authority to override that up to almost 17 million dollars."

Every year, the Governor's office holds a statewide wildfire briefing. This meeting brings together the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Nevada Division of Forestry, Nevada National Guard, and multiple local fire agencies. They discuss predictions and preparedness for situations like the Davis Fire.
