On Wednesday, the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada (PFFN) endorsed Nevada's incumbent Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen.
Senator Rosen and fire department members, along with their families, gathered for a press conference.
"They put their lives on the line, they're not leaving, that's why we need to make sure we take care of them," said (D-NV) U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen.
PFFN is a labor association with close to 3,000 members throughout the state.
"She has been a strong supporter of public safety, and specifically fire safety and fire departments, since her time in Congress, and then when she went into the senate, she has been a proponent of public safety and fire protection across the state of Nevada her entire time in the Senate," explained District Vice President for Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada Tom Dunn.
Senator Rosen discussed the recently passed bipartisan Fire Grants and Safety Act, which reauthorizes federal grant programs set to expire in September.
"We're growing here in Nevada. We need to hire more firefighters. They need to have that training, and they need to have that equipment as we continue to grow so they can run in when others are running out," explained Senator Rosen.
Senator Rosen has also been advocating for Reno to become the first community to receive new planes. The Nevada Air National Guard would use these planes to combat wildland fires.
"Those C-130J's and what they call the MAFFS, these mobile firefighting systems that go on them. They are critical to our domestic wildfire-fighting mission. We are next on the list, and I am fighting daily to ensure we get what we need," said Rosen.
Senator Rosen voted to increase benefits for firefighters and their families.
She introduced "The Hero Act," which created a nationwide mental health program for firefighters.
Senator Rosen also voted to lift the cap on overtime pay for wildland firefighters.
"If we're requiring our members to go out and leave their families behind and work countless hours, they're getting paid what they should be getting paid," said Todd Ingalsbee, President of Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada.
