Lifelong Republican Ely Mayor Nathan Robertson recently endorsed Democratic incumbent U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada.
The rural Republican mayor wrote an op-ed in the Ely Times, explaining why he is endorsing Senator Rosen's re-election campaign. Robertson cited Rosen's bipartisan efforts to improve rural Nevada's infrastructure, healthcare access, and mining jobs.
"My family has called Ely home for five generations. I graduated from White Pine High School, built my life here, and proudly served as Ely's mayor. I have deep roots in this community, and I'm also a lifelong Republican. This November, I'll be voting for Jacky Rosen because I have seen her proven track record of looking out for Ely and standing up for Nevadans," wrote Mayor Robertson.
The McCourt School Bipartisan Index at The Lugar Center at Georgetown University has ranked Rosen as one of the most bipartisan and independent U.S. senators.
Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Tester, who is in a closely contested race in Montana, and Senator Jacky Rosen did not attend the Democratic National Convention in order to focus on campaigning. Political pundits speculate that the Senators avoided the DNC to create some distance from the Democratic party leadership and to appeal to more moderate and independent/nonpartisan voters.Â
