NDOT Seeks Input on I-580 South Reno Interchange Landscape, Aesthetics

Construction on the new traffic signal on North Virginia Street near the Bonanza Casino in Reno has been completed.

The Nevada Department of Transportation said in a press release Friday morning that the new signal replaces a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of North Virginia Street and Bailey Drive. A concrete barrier rail was also installed on the northwestern corner and a bus shelter was moved behind it.

Further improvements are planned for this area, NDOT says, including a new sidewalk, median island, improved lighting, and pedestrian activated crossing signals. Improvements are also planned for North Virginia Street crosswalks at Talus Way and Moraine Way.

NDOT says that these improvements were part of the approximately $10 million dollars in state highway funds dedicated to pedestrian safety primarily in Clark and Washoe counties over the next year.

In Friday's press release, NDOT Director Rudy Malfabon wrote, “Every death and serious injury on Nevada roads is a tragedy, and nothing is more important to us than the safety of our transportation system. These projects are an extension of the planning and projects which NDOT and our partners put in place each year to enhance safety and save lives.”
