On Friday, North Korea fired what has since been identified as an intercontinental ballistic missile.
CBS News reports that the missile flew longer than any previous launches and landed in the ocean off Japan. Yoshida Suga, the Japanese government spokesman, told CBS that it flew for about 45 minutes, five minutes longer than the July 4th launch.
Later Friday Captain Jeff Davis, a spokesman for the Pentagon, told the Associated Press that the missile is believed to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), meaning in theory it has the capability of reaching portions of U.S. territory.
The ICBM launched on July 4th was previously reported to have been capable of reaching most of Alaska or possibly Hawaii.
The Associated Press and CBS News contributed to this report.
