AÂ group backed by a foreign government stole information from the U.S. Treasury Department and a Commerce Department agency, Reuters reported Sunday.Â
Security council spokesperson John Ullyot said the government is aware of reports about the hacks and is taking steps to identify and remedy any possible issues. The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity arm are investigating
Intelligence agencies are reportedly concerned other agencies were also hacked.Â
This comes just days after the major cybersecurity firm FireEye reported that foreign government hackers had broken into its network and stolen the company’s own hacking tools.Â
Many experts suspect Russia as responsible for the attack against FireEye. FireEye serves multiple government agencies.Â
