Verdict Reached in Jeremiah Bean Murder Trial in Yerington

A verdict has been reached in the Jeremiah Bean murder trial in Yerington. Authorities say Bean has already admitted to killing four people in Fernley and another near Mustang in May 2013.

Some of Monday’s testimony centered around witnesses that said they saw Bean the same weekend of the murders.

Thomas Monaghan says he's known Jeremiah for about ten years and says the defendant was at his house the weekend of the murders driving a truck that was later identified as Bob and Dottie Pape's. "I've never seen Jeremiah in any car before, let alone a brand new one. And I'm fairly confident. It seemed like it was a brand new truck.”

Bean had been staying at Patrick Brady's house, when the crimes happened and says he tried to get rid of evidence when he learned of the murders.

"Jeremiah goes into your room, Monday morning, right?

"Yes."

"He tells you he killed somebody."

"Yes."

"Okay. That Monday morning, do you take his clothes out to Diversion Dam to dispose of it?"

"Yes."

Brady testified that he gave investigators false information about where he dumped the clothing -- and went to put them in another area, several days later.

"I don't know what I was doing. I was very paranoid at the time and what I had told police, prior, that didn't exactly match up."

Brady says he got stuck on a sandy road, near Fallon and ran out of gas. That's when he called his girlfriend at the time to bring a shovel and gas to get him out.

"After I asked him 'Why are you out here?' He said he was looking to disperse of Jeremiah's stuff...and um,” says witness Echo Van Reed.

"Just go ahead and take your time."

Van Reed was eventually interviewed by investigators about Brady's alleged involvement in covering up evidence.

"He wasn't happy with it."

"So he got mad at you because the interview was recorded?"

"Yeah and also because I also mentioned that it had been at either Diversion or the Carson River. He didn't want me to mention that at all."

In all nine people took the stand on Monday.

Bean faces the death penalty in the case.
