Vice President Mike Pence has canceled his visit to Northern Nevada this weekend due to Hurricane Harvey.
The VP's press secretary Marc Lotter confirmed the information on Twitter Friday afternoon. Pence was scheduled as the keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual "Morning in Nevada" PAC Basque Fry at Corley Ranch in Minden.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was also forced to cancel his appearance. Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt issued the following statement Friday: Â
“Today, I have been in communication with the Vice President’s staff, as well as with Senator Ted Cruz. We spoke about Hurricane Harvey and the catastrophic effects it could have on Senator Cruz’s home state of Texas. Together, the Vice President and Senator Cruz have decided it would be most appropriate to cancel their trip to Nevada and focus their time and attention on the people affected by this storm. Â
"While I am grateful that that these two great leaders had planned to visit us tomorrow at the Basque Fry, they are each making the correct and best decision and I fully support them both. My family joins all Nevadans in continuing to keep all those affected by Harvey in our prayers. Â
“Tomorrow’s Basque Fry event will go on, including remarks from the other great conservative speakers, such as Matt Schlapp, Governor Susana Martinez, and Congressman Mark Amodei, among others. We will also be serving a great Basque Barbecue, and we will have live music and fun events and attractions for the entire family." Â
