Visual Art Combines With Classical Music to Create 'Strings with Bling'

What do you get when you mix the hopes and dreams of 70 members of the Reno Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra with local visual artists? You get 'Strings with Bling.'

"We asked seven local artists to take these instruments and turn them into a piece of visual art. And they are magnificent! They all started as student instruments and now they are exquisite art that we hope will help raise money for our trip," said Tim Young, the Executive Director of the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Youth Orchestra has made the cut to play at Carnegie Hall in 2017 and now they are raising the money to get there. It will take $300,000 to do it. But they are optimistic. And the instruments will be just a part of next weekend's annual fundraiser for the Reno Phil. It's May 16th at the Reno Events Center starting at 6 p.m.
