Danny Tarkanian Announces Run for Heck's Congressional Seat

The Washoe County Democratic Party is training to be experts by February on the delegate selection process for the Nevada caucus.

Most Nevada voters have never caucused before or even understand how a caucus works. So Wednesday night, a couple dozen people learned how math is the deciding factor on how to pick who they want to support at the national convention.

Some unique candidates, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog were chosen for this mock caucus. Volunteers practiced how the process all works, from choosing a delegate to how they're allocated.

Pam DuPre, the Executive Director for the Washoe County Democratic Party said, "It's an official process, so we have to be very careful that we count the numbers, people are counted accurately, the numbers are accurately reported. Because this is the process by which we'll decide who our democratic nominee is going to be."

Wendy Boszak says it's not only important to understand it but, "You really will have a say the more people that come to the caucus, and then align with their candidate, the more chance that they'll have delegates for them," said Boszak.

The Washoe County Republican Party will have training as well, coming up on December 3 at Wooster High School.

Adam Khan, the Chairman for the Washoe County Republican Party said, "A lot of people have no idea what a caucus is, they've never participating in one, and it's a daunting task to actually go and figure out what your precinct location is, and to vote, so we want to show people it's not as difficult as it seems. We want people to know exactly how to do it, and where to go."

And the republicans agree how crucial the caucus process is.

"It is a caucus which allows people to really get involved in the political process. And to get to meet with their neighbors and their friends in their communities and their precincts, to really decide who the next president is going to be," said Khan.

The democratic caucus is February 20 and the republicans will have their caucus on February 23.
