Temperatures continue to incrementally warm under the cover of high pressure. Highs yesterday were exactly average in Reno, and today we’ll land in the mid 90s in the afternoon. Lows today will start around 60 with calm winds and low dewpoints. Winds overall today will be down with gusts to 20 mph, which means that the risk for fire weather today will be down.
We’ll stay in the mid 90s through the end of the work week, at which point an upper low over the Pacific which has been meandering will brush us as it moves into the Pacific Northwest. Winds will increase early in the weekend thanks to the trough, which will likely result in elevated fire weather conditions. Highs however, will drop to around 90 by Saturday and last into the next week.
The propagating Pacific trough will also push our high over the southwest to the east, which will result in some southerly moisture flow for the silver state. We’ll see chances for scattered showers and storms for eastern Nevada, with likely some expansion in coverage to the west over the weekend. Sunday brings the best chance for rain in Reno in what would be a chance for a stray shower.
