$10 Million Grant Will Support Career Training Programs

Nevada's community colleges are getting nearly $10 million in federal grants to help train job seekers for in-demand careers.

Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Monday that the Nevada Community College Consortium had landed the grant through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program.

Funds will help the schools partner with employers to expand and improve career training programs in information technology, health care, energy and other fields.

The consortium helps meet workforce needs across the state with a special emphasis on veterans and active-duty military personnel.

Participating schools include Western Nevada College, the College of Southern Nevada, Truckee Meadows Community College and Great Basin College.

“Partnerships between our community colleges and our business community are a cornerstone to a vibrant, sustainable economy. In order to continue diversifying our economy, we must demonstrate that our workforce is equipped to meet the needs of 21st century industries. I thank NSHE Chancellor Dan Klaich and the team at the Nevada Community College Consortium for their hard work in securing this funding,” said Gov. Sandoval.

“We are proud to work with Governor Sandoval and the business community to help prepare today's graduates for the jobs of tomorrow. This funding is an investment in our students, our community, and will help move the Nevada System of Higher Education and our economy forward,” said Chancellor Dan Klaich.
