Lyon County says its animal shelter is currently overcapacity and may have to start euthanizing dogs for space.

The county has 36 kennels and 8 quarantine kennels (44 kennels total). They are housing 69 dogs with over 60 more waiting to come in. Currently, they have more dogs coming in than strays being claimed, or dogs being left at the shelter and less adoptions happening.

"We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken because, for the first time in over 12 years, we may have to start euthanizing for space and no longer be a no kill (90% or higher save rate) shelter," the county says in a Facebook post.

They say you can help by adopting animals - by looking here.  Or you can call 775-577-5005.

While they do not have a foster program, they say two rescue partners have offered foster services for the dogs - Res-Que and WARF - Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation - Northern Nevada.

They also say if you aren't able to adopt or foster, you can still help by volunteering. You can help keep the dogs exercised or help keep their kennels clean. For volunteer opportunities, call 775-577-5005.
