Members of the Regional Street Enforcement Team (SET) conducted an underage alcohol compliance operation during this weekend's downtown Santa Crawl. The operation was funded with federal grant funds secured by our non-profit partner; Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN).
Two 20 year old volunteers, one 18 year old volunteer, and one 19 year old volunteer, attempted to purchase alcohol at 39 different participating Santa Crawl venues. In addition to the Santa Crawl venues, 4 non-participating liquor stores were also checked and passed.
The minors participating were served alcohol at 2 of the 39 participating locations.Â
In each instance, the volunteers provided their actual state issued identification if they were asked for it, clearly identifying them as underage patrons.Â
Siri Bar and the Cal Neva Casino Bar failed the operation by serving alcohol to the minor and received citations.
The criminal penalty for serving alcohol to a minor and allowing a minor into a bar/saloon are misdemeanors, with a pre-designated fine/bail of $500.00.
