Amazon held a grand opening for its new fulfillment center in Washoe County Friday morning.
We got a tour of the new facility on North Virginia Street just south of Lemmon Drive. It replaces the center that was located in Fernley.
This center can hold five times as much inventory because it's more tightly designed.
"Just in this section that you see behind me, it's a very narrow aisle section. This is basically the cube that we held in our old Fernley facility, only this section alone hold as much inventory as we held in our old facility,” says Mike Roth, Vice President of North American Operations of Amazon.
The fulfillment center will ship everything from diapers and pet food to paddle board and big screen TVs - and will service the entire west coast.
Right now there are 600 full-time employees, but Amazon will hire more over the holidays to help meet demand.
