Authorities say they have recovered the body of a two-year-old boy, after he was grabbed by an alligator at Walt Disney World in Orlando.Â
"At about 1:45 today, members of the Orange County Sheriff's Office dive team located what is believed to be the remains of the deceased, the two-year-old and I'll identify him in just a few moments, at about 3:30 today, we recovered the remains of the two-year-old from the water and that body has now been turned over to the Orange County Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy," said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.
About 50 people including experienced alligator trappers, sheriff's department divers and sonar equipment were used to search a network of man-made canals, ponds and lakes linked to the Seven Seas Lagoon.Â
Police say the boy was attacked while wading in about a foot of water and then was dragged underwater by the alligator.Â
Sheriff Demings says the boy has been identified as Lane Graves of Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Disney has closed the beaches at its Florida resorts, out of what it calls "an abundance of caution."
