If you're looking for an excuse to ride your bike to work today, we have it. People around the nation and right here in Northern Nevada are participating in “Ride Your Bike to Work Week.”
Julie Hunter is the Chair of the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance. She's also an air quality specialist for the County.
"Tons of emissions come from our cars every day,” she said. “It's about a pound of pollution per mile driven so getting on your bike reduces emissions."
This is the 10th year Washoe County has celebrated this event. Last year, however, 8,000 miles were logged in Northern Nevada, meaning 250 cars were off the street. That reduced emissions by 3.9 tons of C02.
The county is asking people who participate this year to log their miles so they can get similar statistics on this year's event.
There are various events and competitions throughout the week. To see a full list, you can head to the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance's website.
