A New Westin Hotel may be making a home in the Biggest Little City.

CAI Investments has filed with the planning commission with the City of Reno to build "the first ground up, non-smoking, non-gaming, upper scale" hotel in Downtown Reno, according to an announcement on their website.

Documents from the City of Reno show the development is planned for the vacant lot at 219 Court Street near Wingfield Park.

The property size is 1.364 acres.

If approved, officials say this hotel will only add to the economic growth Reno is already seeing...

"A number of select service non-gaming properties built here in the Reno/Sparks area over the last several years, and we welcome this new project downtown," says Phil DeLone the President/CEO of RSCVA.

Mike Kazmierski the President/CEO of EDAWN says, "Over the last six/seven years we have added 200 new companies to this region. Many of them are just starting to ramp up their employees. So you start looking at that continued population growth that comes with the surge in quality jobs, there's a greater demand for hotel space."

In order to make this project come to life, though-- the city has to approve a number of things-- including a variance application.

Which would allow for the building to cast a shadow on the Wingfield Park between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

This is a developing story.
