As the holiday season approaches, businesses are starting to pick up hiring, and we found there is a high-demand for work and workers this year.
Agencies like Applied Staffing Solutions have been busy helping people look for work. As we get into the holiday season. There is, of course, the temporary positions in things like warehousing and manufacturing, but they also have a large number of open jobs, especially for temporary-to-hire in areas like clerical and retail.
"We have a lot of clients who are willing to train entry-level," said Tom Miller, Director of Sales for Applied Staffing. "Those jobs get you in on the ground floor that can turn into a permanent long-term job for you."
They're also seeing their clients offering permanent jobs that pay very well.
"We've got jobs up to $100,000 a year for human resources, to plant managers, to quality assurance," Miller said. "I hate to look like I'm reading, but the list is so long, I just can't memorize it all."
He says he has not seen this many jobs up for grabs in several years.
"I think it's indicative of what EDAWN (Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada) has done for us in bringing new business to the area and having other businesses expand. They've done a great job of driving our employment. It's just up to us to fill those jobs."

Meanwhile, ESI Security Services are also looking for around 150 workers for the various events around the Reno-Tahoe area.
"During the holiday season, it gets really busy," said Amanda Hegdahl, Human Resources Manager for ESI Security. "There's a high-demand for security. So, in order to keep our city and local areas safe, we're excited to provide our service to people."
People cannot have a criminal history and need to have flexible hours.
"The flexibility is really big because we are working the holidays, the weekends," Hegdahl said. "It's a 24-7 business. So, that flexibility goes a long way."
They are hiring for their event services department, which includes ushers and ticket-takers. For that, you must be at least 16-years old.
For their security positions, you have to at least be 18-years old, and you should have certification from the Nevada Private Investigator's Licensing Board, if you do not already have it.
"We do provide that service to help people gain that card here in our offices," Hegdahl said. "So, anybody who has it already is great. Anyone who doesn't, we help them out with that service as well."
