The business license for the Frontier Motel was revoked on Thursday by the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

The owner had been given a month long reprieve to address several health concerns after inspectors found rooms infested with mice, rodent feces and bedbugs. At that meeting, the mayor told the owner to hire licensed contractors to fix the violations.

Supervisors encouraged the owner to fix all the health violations as well as to create a criminal mitigation plan with the sheriff's office. The owner can reapply for a business license once the violations are corrected.

The motel has been closed since April 15, 2021.

The Frontier Motel in Carson City was given more time on Thursday to address health concerns inspectors say they found in multiple rooms earlier this week.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors scheduled a show cause hearing on May 20 after the mayor gave the owner the month long reprieve so that he could hire licensed contractors to fix the violations.

Earlier this week, seven of the motel's 56 rooms were closed due to health concerns after inspectors allegedly found rooms infested with mice, rodent feces and bedbugs and health officials cite a potential threat of hantavirus infection.

They also say they found structural issues, unpermitted construction, exposed electrical wires, unsecured doors and several broken windows. They also cited a lack of hot water as a concern.

The motel was brought to the attention of the officials after a high volume of emergency calls and alleged criminal activity was reported at the motel over the last few months.

Occupants have until 7:00 p.m. April 15 to vacate the premises. Officials went door-to-door to help occupants find living accommodations.
