Obesity in Children

The bar inside Pinocchio's on South Virginia Street can hold more than 100 people and we hope to pack them in here this coming Saturday. And the "we" I'm referring to is David Hughes of Dickson Realty, The Golf Guys, Joe Kelley of the RSCVA and I are the team of celebrity bartenders to help raise money for Moms on the Run.

The idea of having celebrities bartend for 10 Saturdays a year came from JP and Barbara Pinocchio's daughter, Jillian. "I really truly thought for every bartending shift I thought they would raise a couple hundred dollars. I thought maybe out of the 10 nights, one or two would hit a $1,000. And I was thinking in total I would raise a couple thousand dollars for Moms on the Run and on the first year, which was 3 years ago, we raised $22,000. I was completely blown away and so in shock and it was beyond any expectation I had for it."

Moms on the Run is a non-profit organization that raises funds to assist northern Nevada women with everyday living expenses while in treatment for breast & gynecological cancers.  To raise money, there's a run on Mother's Day, a biker fest, a fashion show and now celebrity bartending.

Last year, it raised $65,000. So far this year, Jillian has already raised $40,000 with 8 more dates still on the calendar. Including David, Joe and me and the pressure is on. "We've got a good plan. We've got a lot of great auction items. We've got a lot of golf to give away. We've got a condo, a house in incline, concert stuff," says David Hughes.

So please come out. All your tips will go to the cause. It's this Saturday, March 22nd at Pinocchio's at 5995 South Virginia Street between 5-8pm.
