City of Reno Adopts Fiscal Year 2014/2015 Budget

 From the City of Reno:

Several of the City of Reno's departments have been recognized nationally over the past fiscal year. From exceptional financial reporting to excellence in website design, the City received more than a dozen awards for being innovative, effective, and accountable.

In Fiscal Year 2014, the City of Reno was recognized for the following:

  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The GFOA award program recognizes governments that go beyond the minimum requirements to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports.
  • Cashman Good Government Award finalist for its business license improvement project that included a 70-day reduction in processing time that saved the city approximately $100,000 a year. The Cashman award program recognizes government employees who work to spend taxpayer dollars with greater efficiency.
  • Five local and four district American Advertising Awards (ADDYs) for the “Only Rain in the Storm Drain” Integrated Marketing Campaign. The ADDYs are the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition. The campaign brought awareness of the importance of working to keep the Truckee River free of pollutants. This campaign is also a finalist for a 3CMA Savvy Award.
  • The City's redesigned website, Reno.gov, was recognized with four awards for graphic design and functionality including a Hermes Creative Award, What's Next Award for Citizen Engagement, Summit International Award, and an Interactive Media Council Award.
  • Reno was named a Tree City USA for the 31st year in row by the Arbor Day Foundation. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day.
  • The City's Shape Up Reno and Fit But Not Forgotten programs were awarded by the Nevada Recreation & Park Society as the top health and recreational programs in the state.
  • Chief Deputy City Attorney Tracy Chase was honored by the State Bar of Nevada, Public Lawyer's Section, with the 2014 James M. Bartley Distinguished Public Lawyer Award. This statewide award recognizes dedication, notable leadership, and contributions to public service.

The City of Reno will share more achievements, as well as challenges, at the State of the City address this Wednesday, August 27 at 11 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. For those unable to attend in person, the State of the City will be live streamed at
