City of Reno Finalizes Purchase of Cal Neva Parking Garage

From the City of Reno:

The City of Reno today signed the official documents in order to finalize the $10 purchase of the Cal Neva parking garage located next to City Hall.

The documents, which were signed by the seller Jeff Siri and Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, included the Deed for the garage and portions of the adjoining streets, a Bill of Sale for equipment, and a Lease Agreement leasing a portion of the garage back to the seller. Escrow is expected to close on Friday, August 14.

"The City of Reno’s purchase of this garage sends a powerful message: that we care about our staff, our customers, and our citizens and that we are serious about blight," Reno City Councilmember Naomi Duerr says.

Part of the City’s nearly $3.5 million investment in infrastructure improvements could go toward repairs and upgrades to the seven-story parking garage. Exactly what those improvements will be will ultimately be decided by Council based upon staff’s recommendations. The City has set aside $1 million to begin essential restoration efforts.

“Moving forward, the City will think strategically about renovations, accessibility, and convenience to our employees and citizens,” Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger says. “We want the public to know that creating and fostering a vibrant downtown is a top priority.”

Background:

On July 22, 2015, Reno City Council unanimously approved the City of Reno $10 purchase of the Cal Neva parking garage located next to City Hall. On May 13, 2015, Council approved the purchase contingent on the results of further structural investigation by consultant Carl Walker, Inc. and the completion of an ALTA survey to identify property boundaries and easements.
